FLYING 6.18 (25-AUG-1995)

Pool/Snooker/Carrom/Hockey/Curling Simulator - Author: Helmut Hoenig
Licence: None specified
VAX: GCC 2.5.8 - Alpha: DEC C++ 1.3A , VMS 6.1

flying was actually meant to be a test program to implement some classes to control flying objects on the screen. After the classes were implemented there was the need of some real tests and a game of billard was just the first idea. By now, many subgame-classes are already more or less completely defined. They can either be selected by the options or by making a link to the original with a special name. Unfortunately having so many subclasses means that the classes themselves can't be too complicated. (There's just too less time in the world :( ) Therefore the games don't have any rules yet. This means you have to play fair and watch your opponent.

This is a nice little game with color graphics and sound (not available now for the VMS port) for your system with color X11. It was first released as "Mirror Magic" in the year 1989 on the Amiga (with ports on other computer systems).

You need to direct a beam of light into the exit door, after destroying objects on the field (when all objects are destroyed the door opens ...). To direct the beam, you rotate mirrors held by little gnomes. Very nice graphics.

The game board is a matrix of squares that can be occupied by colored troops, and the aim of the game is to eliminate the enemy from the board by attacking squares occupied enemy troops.

TINA.GIF image is provided by the author of Xjig. I've put another image, VALLOIRE.GIF (a scanned slide).

The goal of the game is to retrieve the four colored squares: to retrieve a square, it is sufficient to move the pointer over it, and it will disappear. However, to make things more infuriating, the squares have to be taken in the following order: red, yellow, green and blue. When the blue square is obtained, the game is won.

Xlincity is a city simulation game, very similar to Simcity, available for Linux and various Unix systems, and now for OpenVMS VAX & Alpha.

You are required to build and maintain a city. You must feed, house, provide jobs and goods for your residents. You can build a sustainable economy with the help of renewable energy and recycling, or you can go for broke and build rockets to escape from a pollution ridden and resource starved planet, it's up to you. Due to the finite resources available in any one place, this is not a game that you can leave for long periods of time.

By default, the games uses a 640x480 geometry, but you can use a full screen geometry with the -d option (IT IS wonderfull !!)

XTIC 1.12 (12-OCT-1995)

Board Game - Author: Mattias Jonsson
Licence: None specified
VAX: VAX C 3.2, VMS 5.5-2 - Alpha: DEC C 4.0, VMS 6.1

Xtic is a board game designed for the X windows environment. The game is a two-player game, although for the moment,it is only possible to play against the computer. The board is composed of 4x4 squares and 16 pieces. Each piece has four properties: black or brown, horizontal or vertical, solid or hollow, round or square. This makes up 16 possible combinations and there is exactly one piece for each possibility.

Initially the board is empty. Now the two players try to place out pieces in a way that the opponent has to complete a row, column or diagonal with a common property (e.g. all black). This makes the opponent lose. The players do not choose what piece to put but it is rather player 1 who gives a piece to player 2, who then has to place this piece somewhere and choose a piece for player 1 to put somewhere etc.
